Derek Barnes has been a valued member of The Local family since 2015, starting out as our community chef and moving into a management position in 2017. As our Manager of Community Outreach, Derek has put his Bachelor of Humanities degree to good use. A graduate of Carleton University, Derek spent a good portion of his life in the Ottawa Valley before moving to Stratford close to 13 years ago.
Derek managed his own business, the Wicked Pickle, for several years and developed his cooking skills exploring the rich culinary community that he enjoyed in Stratford. To say that The Local has benefit immensely from Derek's expertise in a wide variety of areas would be an understatement.
In his spare time, Derek enjoys taking part in the local music scene when the sun goes down and choking people out before the sun rises at Stratford Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy. He also loves being a dad.
