Red Lion Room - Restaurant Feature by Doug at ShopStratford.ca

The Red Lion Room is a premiere night club in Stratford, Ontario now open for live music, gourmet food and premium drinks. They have a new menu and I was fortunate to have Chef Ty Young prepare some Friday night takeout to give it a spin. My partner and I were in for a treat!

I arrived at the Red Lion Room, which is in the historic Windsor Hotel at 23 Albert Street and noticed a sign on the sidewalk promoting the supper special and $5 draft pints. I learned that they are also offering $7 martinis on Saturday nights. You can't beat that, especially when The New Vibes Jazz Trio is playing on Friday and Saturday night this weekend.

Inside the venue the stage has been moved to the front of the facility, which opens up the super cool lounge area at the back. It was 5 pm and people were enjoying cocktails before they dined. I was greeted by several friendly staff and Chef Ty came over to introduce himself. I had enough time to snap some pictures of the new layout.

Ty promptly came out of the kitchen with two takeout bags and I was on my way home for some gourmet Friday night food.

I am a vegetarian and my partner eats meat so we had a sampling of both worlds. I will list the menu items we were about to enjoy at the end of this post.

The first thing we noticed was the generous portions. The next was the perfectly meaty spiced olives with crusty bread to soak up the oils. I had a chance to sample the roasted beet hummus and the Red Lion field salad. This salad was the definition of fresh. The apples provided a nice bit of sweetness. As someone who has eaten a lot of hummus, the beets provided a welcome change of flavour without overpowering the other ingredients.

My partner enjoyed the sweet and spicy mussels and the Red Lion skewers. I can't count the number of times she said “Mmm". The mussels were tender and satisfying and the skewers delivered tender chunks of assorted meats with perfectly charred fresh vegetables.

Overall, we completely enjoyed it and look forward to trying more items from the new menu, checking out the live digs and great drink selection.
