We didn't consider pet afterlife care until it was important. When it became important, we were saddened to learn that the offering wasn't acceptable for our beloved family members. That's why we opened EVERMORE. Pets are family, and deserving of dignified and respectful afterlife care. And their people deserve the end-of-life experience they need to lovingly say goodbye to a cherished pet. Who chooses EVERMORE? Pet parents who know there is a local, compassionate option, including some veterinarians. Not everyone will learn there is an option though. Help us spread the word so our pet parent community can make the choices they are entitled to make.
In honour of Joey, the pup who first made EVERMORE's owner, Adrienne, a dog mom, the EVERMORE comfort room is "Joey's Room." Joey was always happy and the "life of the party". He was smart, knew the names of at least 6 toys, and would retrieve each on command. His favourite toy was an orange "Cuz" ball with feet that he carried everywhere and knew as "Little Buddy." He chewed the feet off over time and though he was offered replacements, there was only one Little Buddy for him. Joey also loved cheese, belly rubs, and of course, his people. Joey was the best big brother, and taught Lucy, a rescued pup two years younger than he, how to be a pup. Joey and Lucy shared a special bond, and when he passed, Lucy missed him so. Joey crossed the rainbow bridge on December 27, 2019, after a most memorable Christmas Day surrounded by extended family. It was clear Joey's body was failing him and the most difficult decision was made to lay him to peace. It was after his appointment the question was asked: "When will we receive Joey's remains?" Waiting two weeks or so seemed like a long time, so the question "How long does cremation take?" followed. It was confusing that the wait for Joey's remains would be weeks when the process itself took just hours. With pick-up and transfer to the crematory taking place just twice a week, Adrienne learned that it was necessary to freeze pets. The thought of Joey being placed in a chest freezer was distressing to Adrienne, so she and her mom drove Joey directly to the crematory. “If only there was a local pet aftercare service…" Adrienne thought, freezing pets would be unnecessary. And that thought put into motion the wish that became EVERMORE.
